Declutter, Downsize, and Organize Before Your Next Move

Before you and your family start a search for a new home, you must deal with your existing home and its contents. There are most likely clothing, knick knacks, toys and games, papers and the like you haven't thought about in years. The question then becomes, do you really want this stuff in your new home?

True Friends Moving Company won't help you declutter, downsize and organize prior to your move, but they will carefully pack your possessions for a safe move. The list of things to do for moving sounds long, but with a little planning and the help of everyone in the family, moving can be a stress-free and enjoyable experience for all.

Declutter and Downsize

Start by removing all the clutter in your home. This goes hand-in-hand with downsizing. Paying a moving company to move items you know you won't use there either is a waste of money.

Make three piles

Donate
Trash
Keep

It is best to have a good friend help you with this part, someone who has no vested interested in whether you move or give away items.
Stick to a 20-second rule. Make a decision, one you will stick to, in 20 seconds. It may not seem like a long time to decide if you want to keep something or give it away, but it is an optimal time.

Organizing

After you have decided what you are keeping, and have taken out the trash and arranged for picking up donated items, you'll want to organize what's left.

When packing for a move, keep like items together. True Friends Moving Company can help with packing, but it is easier when kitchen items are in the kitchen and not in the basement. Take a quick run-through your home and make sure everything you are moving is in the room it needs to be unpacked in after the move.
