Moving to a new home can be a stressful time, not only
for the adults, but also for the children and adolescences in your family. Some
children are very resilient and will be excited about a new house while others
do not like major changes to their life. Whichever child, you have the key is
planning. Here are five tips from Nashville's True Friends Movers to help
ease the stress of moving with children.
Get
the Kids Involved - It is important that the children feel
they are a part of the decisions surrounding the move. Ask their opinion of any
potential new homes. Even if your children are young, they will feel better
about moving if they have a say in some small manner.
Packing -
The best way to pack is to be organized. Get moving boxes from your moving company and put two or three boxes in each room. Have the children decorate
each box with their own designs, after you have labeled them. Alongside each
box, place two trash bags. The trash bags are for trash, and donations or
garage sales. As you go through each room, talk with your children about the
importance of donations, especially those items they no longer play with and
love.
Preparing
for the New Community - Helping your children learn about their
new neighborhood, schools, and local activities will go a long way to making
the transition easier on them. If the kids are old enough, have them research
the new city, new school, parks and activities they might enjoy. Another fun idea
is to show them the website of your residential moving company. They
would enjoy seeing the trucks used to move their belongings.
On
the Day of the Move - Plan a special day for your children,
maybe at the grandparent home or a day at the zoo with a favorite aunt. True Friends Moving Company agree children should not be at home the day of the
move. There is a safety issue, as well as the day could be an emotional
overload for some children.
Unpacking - True Friends Moving Company will place your furniture and appliances where you
want them and the boxes in each room. Help the children set up their rooms
first to cut down on confusion and frustration. Tell them about conservation
and the environment by recycling boxes, paper, and other items.
