Moving to College, What to Leave at Mom and Dads

Moving to college for the first time is excitement, stress, anxiety, and fun all in one. Your college or university may provide a list of suggested items to bring, but they may not include, what not to bring to make the move easier.

Nashville's True Friends Moverswant to help you make your first move go as smoothly as possible. Leaving these items at mom and dads will go a long way to make your first year away at college the best.

While you gather up your moving boxes, keep your new living space in mind. If you have the demotions, that will help you pare down your list of items to bring. Residential moving companies like True Friends Moving Company provides free shrink-wrap and padding for packing, and to help keep your items safe through the move.

What to Leave at Home

T-Shirts - You may think you need many T-shirts, but the number one free giveaway at colleges is T-shirts. Only bring 3 to 4 of your favorite. Your T-shirt wardrobe will grow quickly.

Small Appliances - If you have taken a tour of your campus, it should have included a visit to the cafeteria. This is where you will find all you need to create a good meal. The only small appliances you may need are a mini fridge and a microwave. There is no need to bring the juicer, toaster, or Quesada maker.

Television and Video Games - It may sound awful to suggest leaving these items at home, but think about it. You are going to be super busy with homework, projects, working, and a social life. Without this distraction, you will get better grades and meet more people. You can watch movies on your computer.

School Supplies - You won't know exactly what you need until the first few days. If the bookstore prices are too high, there is always a big box store close by.

Even if you are moving into an apartment & Condo style dwelling, there is no need to bring all the comforts of home. You can add what you need from a local thrift store and people giving away their unwanted items.
